Antic Youth – Summer Schools and Youth Theatre
Antic have always intended to place Swansea and South Wales at the centre of its work. This, together with the Company's strong belief in the value of the arts in assisting individual social development led towards the the creation of Antic Youth in July 2004. A hugely successful summer school run by Antic funded by Nof(Out of Schools learning) identified a need for regular sessions for a range of young people aged between 12 and 19 years from all over Swansea. This resulted in the launch of a permanent Youth Company in January 2005 with initial funding from a Cymorth development grant and was a very successful venture working with over 1000 young people over a six year period.

Youth Education

‘It was a pleasure to work with Antic Corporation during their summer school. Through performing arts, Antic is dedicated to encouraging creativity, providing meaningful opportunities and supporting the young people involved to explore new artistic and personal horizons. Antic is a major resource for young people in Swansea and I really hope they continue to go from strength to strength.’

Sarah Greenhalgh- ‘On Common Ground’ Project Co-ordinator. National Museums and Galleries of Wales.

Youth Education

“  I have worked closely with Antic for the last three years in developing opportunities for our students with the company’s weekly workshops and summer schools.   The students reactions to their experiences with the company are the strongest confirmation of the positive effect they have on the young people’s skills and confidence”.

Jill Ahearne – Alternative Curriculum Cordinator, Pentrehafod Comprehensive School.

Youth Education

"Antic delivers extremely high level drama activity which many of the young people involved would not be able to otherwise access.  The most unique aspect of Antic is how it is able to engage and retain such a mix of young people.  This is due to the vibrant delivery style which is easily recognised in both the weekly sessions and in any of the many powerful productions delivered throughout the year.  The enthusiasm and passion of the mentors and tutors are the cornerstone to its success.  Antic is not only about drama as many of the skills learnt, such as communication and problem solving, are essential parts of everyday life.  The biggest advantage of being involved with this project is the increase of confidence and boost to self esteem which broadens these young people's horizons and lets them know they can achieve anything if they put their mind to it."

Mark Gosney - Out of School Hours Learning Co-ordinator, City and County of Swansea

Youth Education

We have been involved with the Antic summer school for a number of years.  The biggest complaint from our students is it is only 2 weeks long!  Every young person that has participated has enjoyed and benefited immensely from the commitment of the professional tutors.

At Dylan Thomas Community School, we have a proud tradition of performing arts and we are happy to support the continuing programme of excellence with this company.

Mark Gibbs – Deputy Head of Dylan Thomas Community School.

"Antic has always taken a very professional approach to its work while sustaining a strong community ethos. Their work is of huge benefit to the local community and has helped many young people to become empowered through their work with the company."

Youth Education

"I have worked in partnership with Antic for a number of years, to create bespoke programmes for disengaged youth. The company consistently deliver high impact learning opportunities through the Arts. The needs of young people are kept at the heart of the process, which often turns out to be a transformational experience for the participants."
